Postsaver has been shortlisted for the Product/System Innovation Award at the 2026 Structural Timber Awards, recognising the innovation behind our ground-line protection system and its contribution to maximising the life of timber in ground-contact applications.

The Structural Timber Awards celebrate innovation, sustainability and technical achievement across the UK timber sector. This year’s Product/System Innovation category brings together a diverse range of technologies, products and systems that are helping to advance the use of timber in construction.

Postsaver has been shortlisted for Postsaver Rot Protectors, Ground-Line Protection System for Long-Life Timber Structures, recognising an approach to timber durability that focuses on one of the most vulnerable points of a timber post: the ground line.

Tackling Timber's Most Vulnerable Point

Timber used in ground contact is exposed to a combination of moisture, oxygen and biological activity, creating ideal conditions for fungal decay.

While preservative treatment plays an important role in protecting timber, the ground-line zone remains a critical area of risk. Postsaver addresses this challenge by introducing a physical barrier around the vulnerable section of the post.

The heat-shrunk, impermeable barrier helps prevent moisture reaching the timber at the ground line, working alongside preservative treatment to provide a comprehensive approach to durability.

The result is a simple system designed to significantly extend the service life of timber in ground-contact applications.

From Fencing to Structural Timber

Postsaver Rot Protectors have been used for many years across fencing, landscaping and other ground-contact applications.

The technology has also evolved to meet the demands of more challenging structural applications through Postsaver +PLUS, which is designed for applications including decking, pergolas, outdoor structures and other load-bearing timber elements.

This expansion reflects a wider opportunity for timber: by addressing durability at the ground line, Postsaver can help give designers, contractors and asset owners greater confidence in using timber where long-term performance is critical.

The technology has also been recognised within the National Highways Low Carbon Opportunities Register, highlighting its potential contribution to more durable and lower-carbon infrastructure.
