What's the Problem?

The leading cause of garden fence failure is ground rot which poses a nasty risk to unprotected wood. We find a whole host of decaying-organisms, nutrients, and moisture ready to rot your posts at the ground line. In the upper 8 inches of the soil, we this time and time again.

As wood-decaying organisms digest the post, your fence loses strength before eventually collapsing and becoming a costly replacement.

Our experts recommend starting from the ground up to give your fence the best possible protection. Fortunately, protecting the ground-line section is simple with Postsaver's rot protectors with their dual-layer rot-prevention technology. By applying a rot protection to your post, you can prevent ground rot and benefit from our 20-year post replacement guarantee.

We appreciate the never-ending range of garden fences to choose from, and with that in mind, we've developed a range of dual-layer rot protectors to fit any sized post. For a garden fence, we recommend our Postsaver Pro-Wrap's or the Pro-Wrap & Tack.

How Do Rot Protectors Work?

Postsaver rot protection has been meticulously refined over its 25-years in production. All of our rot protector's feature our dual-layer rot prevention technology. The sleeve features an outer, highly UV stabilised thermoplastic film and an inner bituminous liner. When the sleeve is heated, it shrinks to the size of the post and the bituminous liner becomes molten, sealing the surface of the wood.

The seal created is entirely air and watertight. This protects your post in two ways:

1) Moisture, fungi and decaying-organisms are locked out.
2) Vital wood preservatives are locked in.

The overall result creates an impenetrable barrier to the causes of decay, keeping your fence and gate posts secure for at least 20-years.
Can I Apply Rot Protectors Myself? Are They Clean and Safe?
You can easily apply rot protectors yourself, or you can ask the contractor installing your fence. Rot protectors are applied using heat, and we can supply all the accessories you need to complete the job. To apply them, we recommend using a blow torch. The right size rot protection will shrink down to the size of your post when heated. For all the information you need on applying them, click here.
How Can Your Other Products Help Protect My Garden Fence and Save Me Money?
When it comes to setting your supporting posts in the ground, they need to be strong to keep your fence standing through the toughest of storms. The average garden, using panelled fencing, would have 9-10 supporting posts. You could use post concrete, but at 97% lighter, Postsaver Pro-Set might be a more appealing alternative, especially if you're opting to do the work your self. Not only is it lighter, but it also doesn't need any water.

When digging your holes, our fencing experts recommend using a fencing spade. Using the specific spade, you can dig a snug hole that will decrease the chances of post-movement. This works perfectly alongside our Pro-Set.

Now you have protected your posts, it's time to protect your panels. We recommend staining your fence at least once a year. Early autumn is the best time to stain your fence to maximise protection ahead of the coming winter months. Check out our range of fence stains for added security against the elements.
